One Rank One Pension Caught between Devil and Sea

One rank one pension is one of the headlines recently found in newspapers and in other media. It is true that retired defence force personnels needs, issues rather greviences must be addressed with atmost priority as they are the prime factor for our nations integrity and soverginity. They are the real reason due to which every Indian are enjoying a free air since 1947. They spend a major part of their life amid diffcult terrain and weather where normally nobody can even imagine to visit for a picnic trip.

Having said that I would like to draw the attention of all present and retired ex servicemen to the fact that if Indian government succumb to the presure immediately without proper provisions for the fund that may be needed to meet the requirments once the One Rank One Pension come into force, then it may be a huge problem for Indian budget as every year after year the problem is bound to increase with more ex servicemen joining the retirment. So it the responsibility of the government to find a true and practical solution and for the same only decision is not enough, only good intentions are not enough, only favourable decsion is not enough, but the provision of the fund are also important to implement the decision and hence I feel retired defence personnel must give a short rope if not a long one to the Indian government which is truly and sincerely working towards finding some practical solution which may please all concerned.

One must not forget that we can expect water in our tap only that much which has been stored in the overhead water tank. Suppose if we had pumped 1000 liters of water in our overhead water tank we cant expect to draw 1100 liters of water through our tap. Like that it is high time all concerned realize that though the requirment of the ex servicmen may be true and practical as well as genuine too but if Indian governemnt does not have the provision to apply it with immediate effect then we must study and accept the situation. It means approval of requirments are subject to availbility of sourses and its approval must not be at the expense of Indian economy’s derailment.

To clarify further can we imagine the veterens of crickets like Mr. Sunil Gavaskar, Mr. Gundappa Vishwanath, Mr. Kapil Dev, Mr Shrikanth, Mr. Navjot Siddhu, Mr Ravi Shasti etc etc to compensate the loss of revenue due to the much less they earned then compared to what the contemporary cricketers are earning today. It may be rediculous but ofcourse BCCI being a rich body they manage to compensate to all notable ex-cricketers thanks for BCCI being a cash rich organization where as India as a country is not in the same ratio economically as India as a country has 100s of priorities which are not 2nd to none with regard to its importance unlike Cricket and BCCI which has only need to take care of the particular sports growth in India and the world. So Indian governemnt being a responsible one must see all the pro and cons of the decision and ofcourse a pro ex servicemen decision must be welcome but it must not be at the expense of India’s economy being pushed into doldrums. It cannot be at the expense of Indian defence budget effected as it may put major purchases into back burner which is already lagging behind due to the decision less 10 year period thanks to Mr AK Antony’s concern to keep himself spot less Mr. Clean.

In a nutshell, I appeal to all concerned ex-servicemen ranks to understand the Indian budget condition which government has to keep in view as it can’t eschew from the responsibility of taking care of all Indian citizens future too which include the genuine rights of retired Ex-Servicemen. So let the government take its true time to come out with a practical solution and I request all Ex- servicemen being a patriotic Indian as you were and you are, allow the government do the needful with the interest of the Nation first which include people from all walks of life as well as every section of society and every industry’s present and future interest has to be taken care. Having said that it is no secret that Defence personnel’s interest comes on top priority when we talk of  Nation and I hope Indian government would leave no stone unturned to see to it that your interests and hopes are not dampend at the same time they will get it executed without spoiling india as a country’s economic future which is the most important which is in the interest of the both ex and present defence personnel too as they are also Indian first and defence personnel next.
