RSS or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Sangh is no more a strange name not only to every Indian but also it has become a familiar name among every countries of the world. It is for more than one reason but most important among the reasons are emergence of dynamic leaders like Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi who is one of the latest product of RSS. Mr Modi has proved to have become an asset not only of India but for the world too and he is the most sought after and fan based leader of the world who has highest followers among the world leaders. 

It is a point to remember that RSS is not just a social and non political organization, but RSS can be best described as the factory which produces and delivers the patriotic and non corrupt leaders for the nation. Shri Atal ji, Shri Advani ji, Shri Murali Manohar Joshi ji, Shri Yogi ji apart from Shri Modi ji are only a small reflection of the true potential of RSS.

When Pakistanis were trying to take over Jammu and Kashmir, it was dedicated and sacrificing Swayam Sevaks who cleared the snow from the airstrips and repaired airfields so that the Indian air force could land their aircraft. They also assisted Indian Soldiers by every means to make sure India wins the war.

Jammu & Kashmir has become an integral part of India because of a big role then played by the RSS chief Shri MS Golwalker who on the request of the Indian Home Minister Shri Sardar Patel rushed to Jammu & Kashmir to meet Maharaja Hari Singh to use his influence with whom Shri MS Golwalker has a good rapport. After the successful meeting, Maharaja Hari Singh decided to join and signed the accord to merge with India.

The above 2 images show the RSS's dedicated contribution was recognized by the whole nation when the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, as a special gesture, invited the RSS to take part in the Indian Republic Day parade of 1963.

The above images belong to the period during Partition when Nehru was finding it extremely difficult to stop the bloodshed, it was the RSS that helped organize over 3,000 relief camps for the refugees from Pakistan.

The sacrifices rendered by RSS activists and their contribution to protecting India during Partition deserve a special mention in India’s history. Whether it was charging the entire atmosphere by taking out processions during the independence struggle or collecting information about Pakistan’s military activities and of the possible Kashmir invasion.

• During the 1965 India-Pakistan war, at the request of then PM Lal Bahadur Shastri, RSS volunteers successfully maintained law and order in the country and are said to be the first to donate blood.

During the Sino-Indian War in 1962, the contribution of the RSS was immense. Swayamsevaks from across the nation assembled in the northeast of India to help the army as well as the locals during those trying times. 

It is believed Nehru was against the RSS purely for political reasons. The RSS was banned on Nehru’s orders because he suspected Vallabhbhai Patel would form a political alliance with them and challenge the Congress.

• The famous ‘Martyrs of Kotli’ incident is worth mentioning where the heroism and gallantry of Swayam Sevaks proved they are even ready to lay down their lives to protect the honor of their Motherland.

During Partition, when Nehru was finding it extremely difficult to stop the bloodshed, it was the RSS that helped organize over 3,000 relief camps for the refugees from Pakistan. During the 1965 India-Pakistan war, at the request of then PM Lal Bahadur Shastri, RSS volunteers successfully maintained law and order in the country and are said to be the first to donate blood.

Noted journalist Kushwant Singh, who had otherwise been openly critical of the RSS, acknowledged the fact that the RSS was instrumental in helping Sikhs in large numbers when murderers went on a rampage to kill them in Delhi in the gruesome 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Even today, whether it is natural disasters like the Tamil Nadu Tsunami, the Gujarat earthquake, the Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand floods, or manmade disasters like the Bhopal gas tragedy of the recent Assam riots, RSS Swayam Sevaks are the first to reach those in need of help. Following Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination in 1948 by a “former” member of the RSS, Nathuram Godse, many prominent RSS leaders were arrested and it was banned as an organization followed by a commission of inquiry into the conspiracy of murder of Gandhi was set up and its report was published by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs in 1970. The ‘Justice Kapur commission’ noted that the RSS was not responsible for the murder of Mahatma Gandhi.

Basically, the RSS is an India first and a pro-Hindu organization, and being pro-Hindu doesn’t mean it is anti-Muslim or anti-Christian. In fact, the basic founding principle of the RSS is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” – the vision of the whole world as one family. Unfortunately, had the Christian brothers deserted their "conversion" mentality which has taken place and is taking place even now directly, indirectly, or through support from missionaries from abroad, and our Muslim brothers leave their radical behavior and their attitude towards other religions in the world except for Muslims, then RSS too may bring in the room for changing their priorities and policies. RSS's main agenda is "Patriotism" and "India first" and believes to remember its rooted traditions in growth and nothing at the expense of India's greatest history which has rich and unmatchable cultural and traditional values.

न्यायालय  ओर RSS

1. इंदौर स्थित मध्य भारत उच्च न्यायालय (1955): ‘कृष्ण लाल बनाम मध्य भारत राज्य ’ –

फैसला - “किसी भी अस्थायी सरकारी कर्मचारी को यह कह कर सेवा से हटाया नहीं जा सकता की वह राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का सदस्य है।”

2. पटना उच्च न्यायालय (1961): ‘मा. स. गोलवलकर बनाम बिहार राज्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के समारोह पर दिया गया भाषण भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 153क के अधीन अपराध नहीं है।”

3. बम्बई उच्च न्यायालय नागपुर न्यायपीठ (1962): ‘चिंतामणि नुरगांवकर बनाम पोस्ट मास्टर जनरल कें.म. , नागपुर ’ –

फैसला - “किसी सरकारी कर्मचारी का राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ की गतिविधियों में भाग लेना ‘विध्वंसक कार्य’ नहीं है तथा उसे इस आधार पर सरकारी सेवा से हटाया नहीं जा सकता। ”

4. उत्तरप्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय (1963): ‘जयकिशन महरोत्रा बनाम महालेखाकार, उत्तर प्रदेश’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का मात्र सदस्य होने के कारण किसी सरकारी कर्मचारी को अनिवार्य रूप से सेवा-निवृत्त नहीं किया जा सकता।”

5. जोधपुर स्थित राजस्थान उच्च न्यायालय (1964): ‘केदारलाल अग्रवाल बनाम राजस्थान राज्य तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ में भाग लेने के आधार पर सरकारी कर्मचारी की बर्खास्तगी न टिक सकने वाली है।”

6. दिल्ली स्थित पंजाब उच्च न्यायालय (1965): ‘मनोहर अम्बोकर बनाम भारत संघ तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के कार्यकलाप में भाग लेना न तो ‘विध्वंसक कार्य’ ही कहा जा सकता है और न ही गैर कानूनी है | सरकारी कर्मचारी को इस आधार पर दण्डित नहीं किया जा सकता ।”

7. बेंगलूर स्थित मैसूर उच्च न्यायालय (1966): ‘रंगनाथाचार अग्निहोत्री बनाम मैसूर राज्य तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का सदस्य होना न्यायाधीश के रूप में नियुक्ति से वंचित रखने के लिए वैध कारण नहीं है।”

8. चंडीगढ़ स्थित पंजाब और हरियाणा उच्च न्यायालय (1967): ‘रामफल बनाम पंजाब राज्य तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के शिविर में भाग लेने के आधार पर किसी सरकारी कर्मचारी को बर्खास्त नहीं किया जा सकता ।”

9. जबलपुर स्थित मध्यप्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय (1973): ‘भारत प्रसाद त्रिपाठी बनाम मध्यप्रदेश सरकार तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के किसी कार्यक्रम में भाग लेने के आधार पर किसी कर्मचारी की सेवा समाप्त नहीं की जा सकती | किसी अन्तरस्थ हेतु से जारी किया गया (इस आशय का) कोई आदेश वैध नहीं ठहराया जा सकता।”

10. उत्तरप्रदेश उच्च न्यायालय (1971) : ‘शिक्षा निदेशक, उत्तर प्रदेश तथा अन्य बनाम रेवत प्रकाश पांडे’ –

फैसला - “सरकारी सेवा के दौरान किसी नागरिक का ‘संगम का अधिकार’ निलंबित नहीं हो जाता ।”

11. गुजरात उच्च न्यायालय, अहमदाबाद (1970) : ‘डी. बी. गोहल बनाम जिला न्यायाधीश, भावनगर तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ के सम्बन्ध में यह सिद्ध नहीं है की वह एक राजनैतिक आन्दोलन है, अतः (इस आधार पर) सरकारी कर्मचारी को सेवा से हटाया नहीं जा सकता | ”

12.अर्नाकुलम स्थित केरल उच्च न्यायालय (1981): ‘टी. बी. आनंदन तथा अन्य बनाम केरल राज्य तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ को किसी सरकारी विद्यालय के भवन का उपयोग अपने कार्यक्रमों के लिए करने की विशेष सुविधा से वंचित नहीं किया जा सकता। ”

13. अर्नाकुलम स्थित केरल उच्च न्यायालय (1982) : ‘श्रीमती थाट्टुम्कर बनाम महाप्रबंधक, टेलिकम्युनिकेशंस, केरल मंडल ’ –

फैसला - “किसी व्यक्ति को राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ का सदस्य होने के आधार पर सरकारी नियुक्ति से वंचित नहीं किया जा सकता। ”

14.भारतीय उच्च न्यायालय (1983) : ‘मध्यप्रदेश राज्य बनाम राम शंकर रघुवंशी तथा अन्य ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ की गतिविधियों में भाग लेने के आधार पर किसी कर्मचारी की सेवा समाप्त नहीं की जा सकती। ”

15. अवैध गतिविधियां (निवारण) अधिनियम (1993) : ‘केंद्रीय सरकार बनाम राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ ’ –

फैसला - “राष्ट्रीय स्वयंसेवक संघ को गैर-कानूनी घोषित करने के लिए कारण पर्याप्त नहीं हैं। ”
