Democracy is considered as the biggest festival of any independent nation where democracy is part of its constitution whereas autocracy is considered as the biggest setback for any nation. Having said that, I want to add that it is neither necessarily a setback for every autocratic nation nor democracy can be treated as a blessing. The reasons with a few examples are provided below.

The biggest blessing of an autocratic nation is that it can do things as per the need of the hour. No politics, no appeasements, no selfish activities. China is one of the best examples which is an autocratic state. China got independence after India, but it has grown far ahead of where India stands today. It is because nothing could come in between the "intentions" of the leaders and its implementation.

You may note that hardly you may see terror activities in China. It is because, even when they find a mere smoke, they take steps as if extinguishing the fire. It could be possible only in a non-democratic country. Uyghurs Muslims are treated as 3rd class citizens in China on suspicion about their possible intentions keeping in view the international behavior of the community.  The other side of the coin reflects that an autocratic country like China may grow strong as a nation but with a miserable standard of living under the shadow of losing the rights of its citizens with fear of losing their rights looming on their heads.

But in a democracy policies are derived with the survival of political parties in mind. They need to act in the balance between the nation's future and their own survival. Due to the same, many times their decision is against their own conscience. The biggest culprit for such a situation is the citizens of the country. Politicians succumb to the trend of the mentality of voters due to the reason either the immatured or the selfish voters' votes keeping in mind their personal benefits above the nation. 

This situation leads to a dangerous trend among politicians, especially honest and sincere politicians as they feel dejected when they realize the citizens are ignoring their good efforts, their sincere efforts their laudable achievements. Yes, when the voters prefer to ignore the candidate who had delivered all the possible best for them and vote the other in spite of knowing that the candidate is not good enough just for the personal selfish gains, then democracy fails.

The survival, growth, and prosperity of a nation are in the hands of citizens and voters of the Nation. If a nation fails the direct responsibility is though on the politicians, but indirectly and ultimate guilty falls on the shoulders of the citizens of the country. The politicians start ignoring their responsibility once they realize that the citizens are not bothered. 

Any democratic nation's growth, prosperity are depending on the voting behavior of the citizens. The most painful and dangerous trend would be that, if voters don't respect the good works, good policies, good intentions of any political party, then the political party may become a laughing stock in the eyes of other corrupt parties and it may result in its dropping and diluting of their sincerity towards their governance. 

In a nutshell, I conclude with an opinion that, a democratic government with a selfish, appeasement intended and non-patriotic politician can be a curse for the country whereas an autocratic nation with a patriotic and down-to-earth leader with some humanity at its top administration can be the biggest blessings.
