Happy Buddha Purnima
The exact date of Vesak is the first full moon in the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. The date varies from year to year in the Gregorian calendar but is typically in May. Buddha Purnima during Vaishakha month is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha. Gautama Buddha whose birth name was Siddhartha Gautama was a spiritual teacher whose teachings Buddhism was founded.
The time of Gautama Buddha's birth and death is uncertain. However, most historians date his lifetime between 563-483 B.C. Most people consider Lumbini, Nepal as the birthplace of Buddha. Buddha died at the age of 80 at Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh.
For Buddhists, Bodh Gaya is the most important pilgrimage site related to the life of Gautama Buddha. The other three important pilgrimage sites are Kushinagar, Lumbini, and Sarnath. It is believed that Gautama Buddha obtained Enlightenment at Bodhgaya and he first taught the Dharma at Sarnath.
It is believed that Gautama Buddha obtained Enlightenment on this day. Buddha Purnima is also known as BuddhaJayanti, Vesak, Vaishaka, and Buddha's Birthday. Shri Buddha is an incarnation of Shri Lav one of the twin sons of Lord Shri Ram. Shri Kush, another son of Lord Shri Ram is Shri Mahaveera.
Both Lav and Kush in their new respective incarnation had completed a very important task of cleaning of "left Aghya chakra and the Right Aghya chakra which is situated in our forehead in the form of Lord Shri Mahaveera and Lord Shri Buddha.
