During the 2020 Accidental confession of Kerala film superstar Prithviraj about the "Lakshadweep" as he narrates that, in spite of being one of the most potential tourist destinations of India, it does not have any tourism infrastructure and it is reluctant to mingle.
Lakshadweep islands, off the coast of the southern Indian state of Kerala, are complaining about a string of policies initiated by an Indian Central government under the immediate administration of Mr. Prafful Patel.
Lakshadweep is a union territory run by an administrator appointed by the central government. Only 10 of its 36 islands, in the Arabian Sea, are inhabited. Muslims account for 93 percent of the islands which has more or less 70,000 population. Kerala, is the closest Indian state, is just 240 kilometers away.

Until December last year when the Central government-appointed former Gujarat Minister Mr. Praful Patel as its administrator, it was only a union territory handled by a Bureaucrat under the central government.
In the five months since taking up his position, Patel has announced a series of decisions that have sparked controversies, such as a proposed ban on the slaughter of cows and the consumption of beef. The draft legislation that would disqualify people with more than two children from contesting local elections and the introduction of the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA), under which individuals can be detained, without any public disclosure, for up to a year.
Another contentious proposal from his office is the Lakshadweep Development Authority Regulation 2021, a draft law that gives the administrator the power to remove or relocate islanders from their properties if required by planning or development activities.
All these steps are taken with the intention to make Lakshadweep one of the main tourist destinations of India. Lakshadweep though is a natural tourist destination has been neglected for decades and was lagging far behind vis a vis its actual tourist potential.
Indian government under the leadership of Narendra Modi probably for the first time since Independence has taken a serious initiative towards reviving the fortune of Lakshadweep tourism.
But for the same, to get the infrastructures in place lot of reviving must be needed like clearing the encroachments, vacating the places inhibited which might be a hindrance for the tourism promotion activities, etc. From the disclosure of the video of the film star that Lakshadweep has only one resort that too in pathetic condition on the verge of closure.
Broadening and beautification of roads along with modernization and beautification of beaches along with developments of world-class resorts and natural cottages etc are probably in the pipeline. Last but not the least, probably India is developing these Islands for India's strategic advantage too to strengthen the Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea on the lines of Goa, Karwar, and Cochin.

The laying of submarine optical fiber cable between Kochi and Lakshadweep Islands (KLI Project) envisages a direct communication link through a dedicated submarine optical fiber cable (OFC) between Kochi and 11 Islands of Lakshadweep. For the first time since Independence, just like initiatives taken for the development of North-East states of India, Lakshadweep is being targeted to convert it into one of the world-class tourism destinations. I wonder how India could have afforded to have lost huge opportunities of domestic as well as foreign tourism for this otherwise natural tourist destination of our great country.
The project is expected to cost around Rs 1,072 crore including operational expenses for five years which will be funded by Universal Service Obligation Fund.
BSNL is appointed as the Project Execution Agency and Telecommunications Consultant India Ltd (TCIL) as the Technical Consultant of the project to assist USOF, DoT.
An ex-soldier of Indian defense forces published a YouTube video disclosing the entire illegal Lakshadweep 10 days holiday enjoyed by not only Rajiv and his immediate family which includes Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul, and Priyanka but also a gang of Sonia Gandhi's relatives from Italy and two undisclosed foreigners.
